For the Good of Tomorrow

Recycling and sustainability are a core fundamental principle of Phunkshun Wear, and we’re incredibly proud to use REPREVE® recycled fiber in our products for over a decade. Our foray into recycled fiber began when we introduced products that featured a Polartec® Classic 100® fleece lining to our catalog. An instant hit due to their thermal retaining properties, they also excited customers because the fleece from Polartec® is made using REPREVE® recycled fiber.

After a season of testing, we expanded the integration of recycled fiber throughout our entire product line, the first winter sports face-gear company to do so, and years before others started utilizing REPREVE®. Being early adopters to such a sustainable and revolutionary technology was an easy decision to make, it reduced our carbon footprint and has allowed to keep millions of plastic bottles out of landfills to help fight climate change.

REPREVE® is the world’s leading brand of recycled performance fiber. Using recycled instead of conventional polyester produces fewer carbon emissions. And giving plastic bottles a second life keeps them out of oceans, forests, mountains, and landfills.

The recycling process is quite simple –

Phunkshunwear process manufacturing

Source recycled waste.

Recycled bottles and post-industrial waste (including our own) are collected worldwide.

Clean and flake.

Waste material is chopped, ground, washed, and turned into flake to remove contaminants.

Make the Resin.

Waste flake is melted and reformulated into high-quality REPREVE® resin.

Form the fiber.

Resin is melted into liquid polymer and extruded to form fiber. From there, it is spun and air-jet textured into yarn.

Mill Fabric from the yarn

Yarn is sent to one of our domestic partner fabric mills where it’s knitted into fabric

From there we print/cut/sew the fabric into one of our many wonderful facemask styles in our own Eco-Factory in Denver, CO.
