A-Basin Opens Upper Ramrod

DILLON, CO – Arapahoe Basin received over five inches of fresh snowfall on Sunday, December 3, allowing their team to drop the rope and open upper Ramrod for the season.

Snow was still coming down and expected to continue into Monday early morning, as of this report.


POW! Purgatory Picks Up 11 Inches

DURANGO, CO – Nearly a foot of snow fell at Purgatory, with a total of 11 inches in three days, including two inches on Sunday night.

Thirty-seven trails are now open, including access to the backside of the mountain, and Lift 3 is open, making a total of seven lifts in operation.

Telluride Will Open December 2

TELLURIDE, CO – Telluride will open on Saturday, December 2, with Lift 4, the Chondola, and wall-to-wall coverage on the following runs:

  • Village Bypass to Lower Boomerang;
  • Access in and out of Gorrono, Upper Misty Maiden, The Meadows, and both magic carpets;
  • Ski-out access from the Village parking garage via Double Cabins.

A bonus run off Lift 4 is possible. Stay tuned for more terrain updates this week.

Gorrono Ranch, the ski school, and Cubs Camp will also open on December 2.

Powderhorn Prepares to Open

MESA, CO – Powderhorn Mountain Resort is set to kick off the 2023–24 winter season on Friday, November 24, marking one of the earliest openings in the resort’s history. Powderhorn guests will enjoy skiing and riding on Bill’s Run and Peacemaker, serviced by the Flat Top Flyer high-speed quad chairlift, with the Lower Dude beginner area accessible via the Discovery conveyor lift. Lifts will be in operation seven days a week from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and the resort plans to expand available terrain as soon as conditions permit.

Boasting a gravity-fed snowmaking system recognized as one of North America’s most energy-efficient, Powderhorn has operated the system at full capacity since late October whenever conditions permitted. Supplementing strong snowmaking production, Powderhorn has received 33 inches of natural snowfall to date, setting up the resort for additional terrain openings soon.

To celebrate Opening Weekend, Powderhorn is offering a special deal: complimentary ski or snowboard rental equipment packages with the purchase of a day ticket, valid Friday through Sunday only. Early season lift ticket rates will be as follows: adults and teens: $79 and juniors: $39. Powderhorn also offers $29 season passes for children 5 and under and seniors 75 and older. Guests can purchase Mission Affordable 4-Packs—four fully transferable day tickets—for only $279 until November 27; prices go up to $319 from November 28 until December 18.

The resort’s facilities, including the newly renovated Sunset Grill, Rental & Repair Shop, and the Outdoor Elements retail store within the Base Lodge, will be open to the public. Additionally, guests can book accommodations at the 300 Lakes Village Tiny Homes.

Aspen Announces Opening Day

ASPEN, CO – Aspen Mountain and Snowmass will open for the 2023–24 season as scheduled on Thursday, November 23. The traditional Thanksgiving opening will feature skiing on the upper slopes of Aspen Mountain as well as Elk Camp Meadows at Snowmass.

Aspen Mountain will open with 41 acres served by the Silver Queen Gondola for uploading and downloading from 9:00 am–3:00 pm for skiers; for those using a sightseeing ticket, the last upload will be at 3:30 pm and the final download at 4:00 pm. The Ajax Express chair will access open runs, including Dipsy Doodle, Silver Bell, Deer Park, and Tortilla Flats.

Snowmass will open with 16 acres of terrain at Elk Camp Meadows beginner’s area. The Elk Camp Gondola will be open for uploading and downloading from 9:00 am–3:30 pm, with the last download at 4:00 pm. The Sky Cab and Meadows chairs and the Magic Carpet will also be open. The Sky Cab gondola will start running at 8:00 am.

Throughout the early season, terrain will continue to open on both Aspen Mountain and Snowmass as conditions allow. Visit Aspen Snowmass for the most up-to-date terrain openings.

Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk are scheduled to open on Saturday, December 9.

Full Steamboat Ahead

Mimosas & Donuts & First Chairs, Oh My!

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO – Steamboat Ski Resort will open for the 2023–24 season on Wednesday, November 22, with Christie Peak Express Lift and seven trails offering 25 acres of terrain. Skiers and riders will have access to Jess’ Cut Off, Sitz, Sitz Back, Vogue, lower Short Cut, Stampede, as well as terrain in the Lil’ Rodeo terrain park. Timber & Torch and The Range Food & Drink Hall will be opening for dining. The Steamboat Gondola will operate for scenic gondola rides with dining available in Thunderhead Lodge on Saturday and Sunday, November 25 and 26.

Opening Day events begin on Saturday at 7:30 am, one hour prior to the lifts starting. Guests can enjoy complimentary Korbel mimosas and Champagne powder donuts from 7:30-8:30 am, and free Ohana designed custom t-shirts will be passed out to the first 100 skiers and riders in line. Skiers and riders can participate in the resort’s Instagram scavenger hunt to follow clues and find prizes on the mountain throughout the day. Prizes include Ohana Opening Day shirts, Smartwool socks, and WinterWonderGrass tickets. The forecast looks favorable for prime snowmaking temperatures Saturday through Tuesday with the possibility of around the clock snowmaking. Crews will continue to work with Mother Nature to cover more terrain with the focus next on Heavenly Daze, Greenhorn Ranch, and Right-O-Way. With additional snowmaking efforts and natural snowfall, the resort will open more terrain as conditions allow.

Loveland Celebrates Opening Day

Loveland Is Open for (Snow) Business

GEORGETOWN, COLORADO – Loveland Ski Area opened for the 2023–24 season on Friday, November 10. First chair was at 9:00 am.

Skiers and snowboarders enjoyed three trails, 1000 vertical feet, and an 18” base.

Loveland snowmakers have shifted their focus to open additional terrain as soon as possible.
