Ahh – summertime. What’s better than summer in Colorado? The lack of humidity, the views, the rivers, the trails, the experiences that await – it’s all here for you to enjoy. Summer 2019 is poised to be one of the better summers. With the Climate Prediction Center calling for near to above normal precipitation and near to below normal temperatures, your excuses are running thin for not being here.
One of the more well-known resorts in Colorado doesn’t stop spinning ski lifts just because the snow is melting (and melting very late in the season compared to normal mind you), it keeps spinning those lifts through the summer and offers a number of summer activities that are so much fun for outdoor enthusiasts, families, dog owners, and thrill seekers.
Winter Park officially opens on Saturday, June 15. This summer, Winter Park is hosting a plethora of events and deals that you need to take advantage of. Kicking off the summer, the Venture Out Fest will bring a crowd of excited patrons to the mountain to enjoy live music, yoga, slackline lessons and shows, and dock dogs! Dock dogs? Oh yes, dogs jumping as far as they can off a dock!
Venture Out Fest is just the first in a crowded summer events calendar that includes a mixture of old favorites and exciting new additions. The popular Village Uncorked returns on July 6 and Mountain Oktoberfest + Summit Assault is back on September 7 while being joined by a new Farmers Market every third Sunday from July to September, Wild West Whiskey Fest on August 31-September 1, and the USA Cycle MTB National Championships from July 23-28. Mountaintop Happy Hour, which was so popular during the winter, will also be back for summer with happy hour drink specials at Sunspot Lodge every Friday-Sunday, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. (Saturdays only in June and September after Labor Day).
No matter what your summer plans are, you should plan on making the trip to Winter Park. Aside from what’s listed above, you can also disc golf, join in on mountain top yoga, take guided tours either on a bike or on foot, test your skills at the ropes course or go summer tubing!
Regardless of your skill level or interest in the outdoors, there will be something at Winter Park to entertain you. If it’s not the events and activities, it’ll be the employees at the resort that will bring a sense of joy to your day.
