With Purgatory Resort crossing the 300” mark for total snowfall this morning and sister mountain Hesperus Ski Area reporting 188”, both ski areas announced today they are adding ski days to the 2018-2019 winter.
Purgatory is extending the daily operating schedule through April 7 and will be open Saturdays and Sundays thereafter, although a closing date has not yet been announced.
Hesperus will be open everyday this week from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. as part of their regular operating schedule. Instead of closing for the season on Sunday, March 17, however, they will continue operations on Fridays from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning March 22. Hesperus’ closing date is currently planned for Sunday, March 31.
Last night’s snowfall brought 13” to Purgatory Resort, bringing the total snowfall for the 18/19 season to 308”. Purgatory is now perched on a 98” base and Hesperus is at a 40” base. With the snow still coming (Open Snow forecasts up to 17” at Purgatory and up to 13” at Hesperus through Thursday), guests and employees alike are relishing that winter has returned in full force this year.
“Last year, we all did the best with what we had,” said Mountain Capital Partners (MCP) managing partner James Coleman. “But this winter? It’s like everyday is a celebration. Guests are loving it. Employees are taking more laps. The stoke is so high across the board and we’re eager to keep that going well into spring.”
