This upcoming Memorial Day weekend is one for the history books. Literally.
Some ski areas are still open, some resorts are reopening (!!) for skiing, and a lot of our member resorts are opening for summer operations.
Let’s break down the events you should know about:
Arapahoe Basin:
Arapahoe Basin is still operating under full winter operations! The ski area has been open since October 20th of 2018 which puts them at just over 7 months of being open! And with operations continuing Sunday-Saturday until June 2 and (at least) one more long weekend on the 7th, 8th and 9th, you have plenty of time to get some awesome spring skiing in. Plus, a recent late-season snowstorm has brought A-Basin almost a foot of new snow! Get up there and enjoy it! While Arapahoe Basin doesn’t have many exclusive events catered to Memorial Day (besides being open) they are hosting their 18th annual Festival of the Brewpubs. They’re will be a dozen local breweries there and live music.
Aspen Snowmass
Aspen has been closed their mountain for the winter. Summer operations will begin on May 25 and wouldn’t you know it, because of how great this ski season has been (and because of the aforementioned late-season snowstorm) they are not just opening for summer operations, but they are also opening 130 acres of skiable terrain as well! Aspen will have a live DJ out on the deck. Take note: skiing will only be available from 10am to 2pm. More info can be found here.
Granby Ranch:
Granby Ranch grill opens on May 24th! Check out their happy hour from 3-6pm and also check out their new summer menu! After that, Granby Ranch will offer a Sunday Funday live music on the patio. Go enjoy some fun music in a beautiful part of Colorado.
Powderhorn:
Powderhorn will be opening for summer activities on May 25th! During the summer, Powderhorn is very family-friendly but instead of skiing and snowboarding, you’ll find great mountain biking trails, scenic chair rides, hiking, and fun outdoor events. If you think the winter views are breathtaking, wait until you see them in the summer
Purgatory:
Purgatory will be opening their mountain for summer operations on May 25th. Not only are they opening for summer activities, but the famous Iron Horse Bicycle Classic will be happening. AND they will be opening Skiing on Memorial Day weekend for the first time ever! They will be opening 130 of skiable terrain to everyone as a discounted lift-ticket price. More information can be found here.
Steamboat Springs:
Steamboat Springs will be opening for Memorial Day weekend on May 24! They offer a number of summer activities including; a mountain coaster, mountain biking, obstacle course, disc golf, kayaking, yoga, dining and much more.
Telluride:
Telluride is a beautiful resort and they have so much to offer for the summer. Just a few things that may interest you include; mountain biking, scenic (free) chairlift and gondola rides, summer tubing, fly fishing and much more! The big event this weekend is the Telluride MountainFilm Fest! MountainFilm is a collection of about 85 different films from around the world that are shown over the course of several days. Starting May 24th, there will be films, parties, book singings and more! More information can be found here.
