What it Means to be King of Spring

I Googled “Eldora” to find out what the word means. The search gave a couple origins including gold, gift of the sun, and blond. Our recent visit to Eldora Mountain Resort definitely lived up to the meaning of Eldora.

We knew Eldora was a family place (which meant we had to bring the kids) but after a quick glance at the trail map we realized that Eldora has an adult side in a difficulty-of-terrain kind of way, not a bown-chicka-bown-bown way with 30 percent of their 680 acres designated as expert terrain.IMG_0006

Like most Colorado Ski Country USA Gems, at Eldora, you pull into the parking lot and park then have just a short walk to the lift. IMG_0021
At the lift, we used the Colorado Ski Country USA Gold Pass that provides direct to lift access at 21 member resorts. With our Gold Passes, we were golden. Except for the 3yr old who didn’t have a Gold Pass andbecause I’m blond – I almost forgot to get a ticket for.IMG_0015

There are two base lodges and both house guest services including restaurants. There is also the Lookout restaurant at Corona Bowl which is perched at 10,800 feet and offers fish bowl views of the surrounding range dominated by James Peak. IMG_0002
Someone told me once that from the top of Eldora, Winter Park Resort is about 12 miles as the crow flies-and because Im blond I believe just about everything I’m told.IMG_0005

The day of our visit it was a perfect Colorado spring skiing day. Earlier in the week Eldora had received a gift from Ullr of 18″ that now sparkled under blue bird skies and glistened in the Colorado sun. IMG_0003
Eldoras gift from the sun was warm mild temps and soft bumps making for fun runs ’till the lifts closed. The sun was a little generous in the gift giving department and we got a little sun burnt and because I’m blond I didnt think to double up on the sunscreen. (I’m salon blond by the way.)
