Colorados Silverton Mountain hosted the 2012 Red Bull Cold Rush earlier this month. This is the second year in a row the event has been held at Silverton Mountain. If you werent able to make it to Silverton to see the action, be sure to catch it on NBC March 24 at 1pm EST. Like most sporting events, watching it on TV sometimes provides a better view of the action, and The Red Bull Cold Rush is definitely full of action.
The Red Bull Cold Rush is a three-day big mountain skiing competition that takes place in a backcountry setting. Stellar athletes compete for the title of best all-around skier. Its all about backcountry freestyle progression with emphasis on slopestyle, big mountain and cliffs. These athletes actually seek out the cliffs that most of us look to avoid. But the twist on this event, which makes it stand out from others, is that the competitors are judged by fellow skiers.
That the event, lets talk a little bit about Silverton. An obvious choice to play host given that it is North Americas highest, steepest, and gnarliest ski area. Towering at 13,487 feet, Silverton is situated in the southwest corner of Colorado. The mountain is kept in its natural state, no groomers or grooming equipment, and offers 1,800 acres of bowls, chutes and cliffs and mind blowing lines.
NBC will bring the high flying winter riding aerobatics to your screen viewing device of choice at 1pm ET on March 24th.
