Sunlight Mini-Mayor Colby Rogers, 6, is currently leading her bid for re-election against four other candidates in Sunlight Mountain Resort’s 3rd Annual Mini-Mayor Election. Online voting began Sept. 1st and nearly 100,000 votes have already been cast in what officials at Sunlight say is a new record for voter turnout. Last year Rogers, who hails from Rifle, Colo., won Sunlight’s Mini-Mayor Election with 3,948 votes, edging out 2016/17 Mini-Mayor Gabby Noyes, 10, of Silt, Colo., by less than 100 votes. Rogers and Noyes announced their intentions to seek a second term at the Garfield County Fair Parade held Aug. 4th in Rifle. Watch the video

Political newcomer Piper Arnette, 6, of Silt, Colo., has mounted an impressive effort issuing daily news briefings since announcing her candidacy September 9. View Piper’s press briefings here.

All skiers and snowboarders aged 12 and under can run for office. Sunlight Mini-Mayor enjoys many exclusive benefits including a complimentary season pass, a new pair of skis or snowboard, and most importantly, a seat at Sunlight’s Executive Table. Last season Mini-Mayor Rogers successfully passed the Spaghetti Act that called for spaghetti to be added to Sunlight’s lunch menu with 10 percent of proceeds benefitting the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Colorado. Last season the Spaghetti Act raised $500 for Make-a-Wish. The office of Mini-Mayor serves a one year term, with a two- term limit, meaning that incumbents can only be reelected once. Officials at Sunlight say the office of Mini- Mayor “gives voice to a previously underrepresented but vitally important cohort of young skiers and snowboarders everywhere.”
