Ski in the New Year with Monarch Mountain’s 38th Annual Torchlight Parade and Fireworks Show. Starting at 3:00 PM music by Roundhouse Assembly will rock the house in the Pioneer Room at Monarch Mountain. There will be food and fun in the Sidewinder Saloon and Elmo’s Bar. At dusk the torchlight parade begins weaving its way down the ski run Freeway followed by a spectacular firework show. “In celebration of Monarch’s 80th anniversary season, there will be double the fireworks,” said Kathryn Wadsworth event coordinator. The torchlight parade and fireworks are viewable from the base area and ski lodge deck. During New Year’s Eve day, guests can register and sign a liability waiver at the Guest Services Desk to participate in the torchlight parade. Minimum age for participants in the torchlight parade is 7 years old and those between the ages of 7-12 must be accompanied by an adult. Skiers and snowboarders participating in the torchlight parade must be capable of skiing or snowboarding down Freeway, an intermediate run, while holding a lighted torch. “The New Year’s Eve activities at Monarch are free of charge and everyone is invited to join Monarch in its 80th anniversary New Year’s Eve celebration,” said Wadsworth.
