Resorts Cancel Fireworks Displays to Promote Responsible Stewardship of State’s Forests, Continue to Offer Additional Summer Activities

As of today, no Colorado Ski Country USA (CSCUSA) ski resorts are directly impacted by the fires burning in certain locations in Colorado. All resorts with summer operations are open for summer business. However, resorts are watching the fires closely and are prepared with emergency wild land fire plans in place, communicating with guests about the serious conditions and working with the USFS and related agencies to mitigate any fire threat.

Steps Colorado ski resorts have taken to ensure their best defense against a fire outbreak in the ski area boundary include stocking all mountain vehicles with fire extinguishers, strategically setting up water coffers around the mountain, and being able to charge snowmaking systems in an emergency.

Resorts have communicated their wildfire plans to employees and trained their on-mountain summer staff to use onsite firefighting equipment.

CSCUSA member resorts are communicating any current fire restrictions issued by their county and the USFS to all employees and guests. Additionally, resorts have posted signs at the top and bottom of lifts that smoking is not permitted and/or smoking is banned from any resort property. Furthermore, resorts are working to educate guests about the fire danger, what the restrictions are and reminding them that we are all stewards of the forest.

As an added precaution the following resorts/resort towns have canceled their fireworks display plans:

  • Steamboat Springs/Steamboat Resort/Howelsen Hill
  • Silverton
  • Salida/Monarch
  • Telluride
  • Powderhorn (resort not participating, Mesa is still having their display)
  • Aspen
  • Copper
  • Sunlight/Glenwood Springs
  • Winter Park

Fourth of July festivities other than fireworks will proceed as planned.
