Resort officials announced that the resort plans to open for the ski season at 9am on Saturday, November 21. Skiers and snowboarders will ride on the high-speed six-person Lift 1 with Lift 2 as needed and specific trails will be announced via the snow report on Saturday morning. Limited beginner terrain will be available opening weekend and lessons will be available starting Tuesday, November 24.

“Thanks to our hardworking and dedicated slope maintenance team of snowmakers and groomers, Purgatory will have a great early season ski product for this weekend,” stated Dave Rathbun, general manager.

On Saturday, the Powderhouse outdoor on-mountain bar and grill will be open along with the Bear Bar and Grill, located at the base of Lift 1. Guests may order food and beverages from Paradise Pizzeria and Purgy’s for a carry out and the Village Market and Deli for pre-packaged grab and go items. No indoor dining will be available per La Plata County’s red Covid-19 dial level. Rental equipment will be available along with Village shopping.

The resort added new fan guns to their fleet significantly increasing its snowmaking output. “We’ve been watching the weather and taking advantage of favorable temperatures to make snow when the opportunities arise. Last week we were able to make snow eight nights in a row marking one of our most productive snowmaking stretches ever.” With cold temperatures returning this weekend snowmaking will move to additional trails on the frontside of the mountain.

This season, all guests and employees are required to wear a mask in all public places except when actively engaged in skiing and snowboarding, or while eating or drinking. The Covid-19 Action Team (CAT) will enforce the resort’s health and safety protocols including physical distancing at all times and no congregating anywhere at the resort including parking lots and The Beach. Lift tickets are available for purchase online only, and the price will be $79 for all ages when purchased before Thursday at 11:59pm. Kids age 10 and under ski free every day with the Power Kids season pass. Learn more.

Purgatory will be open daily, 9am to 4pm for the rest of the season. Ongoing operational updates can be found at skipurg.com or sign up for the resort’s new text alert system by texting PURG to 64600. Standard data and message rates may apply.
