Mesa, Colorado – December 13, 2018 – Powderhorn Mountain Resort boasted a bluebird opening day for the 2018/19 winter season yesterday, a full ten days earlier than opening day last season. With four fresh inches of snow from yesterday’s storm, the Flat Top Flyer, West End, Easy Rider and Magic Carpet lifts are now open for skiing and riding on 33 of the resort’s 42 runs, making a full 75% of Powderhorn’s total terrain accessible for opening day.

“Powderhorn plays a vital role as a major employer on the Western slope, and with such a strong opening this year we are able to once again provide over 300 jobs in the local economy,” says Ryan Schramm, new general manager. “I can't wait to take my first runs at PMR and explore the top to bottom runs tomorrow!"

Expanded snowmaking capabilities made possible by a new pond and pond liner combined with favorable weather conditions provide Powderhorn guests with top-to-bottom skiing and riding on natural snow at the top of the mountain, supplemented with man-made snow near the base. The resort is investing in improvements to further enhance snowmaking for the 2019/20 season, including top-to-bottom snowmaking coverage.

Opening Weekend celebrations kick off today and run through Sunday, Dec. 16 with drink specials at Sunset Bar and Powderhorn Pub sponsored by Peach Street Distillers from Palisade. Gilson Snowboards will also be on site with demos of their 2019 snowboards in the base area.

To add to the excitement of the new season, Powderhorn has doubled the number of season pass holders this year because of the Mission: Affordable pass program the resort introduced for this season.  Notably, 54% of 2018/19 season pass holders are new Powderhorn customers because of the program. If they are not already passholders, guests can still purchase a Mission: Affordable Season Pass before the price increases on Dec. 16, or they can get a Mission: Four’dable Quad Pack for $189 while they are available through Dec. 21.
