Not since 1997 has there been lift served skiing in Colorado on the 4th of July. Summer skiing in Colorado is nothing new; its rare but not new. This summer, skiing has been available at Aspen and Arapahoe Basin on weekends. Aspen is now closed, however Arapahoe Basin has extended summer skiing through the July 4th Holiday.
Theres plenty of snow up there. The Basin is boasting a 52-inch base at mid-mountain and has two lifts operating. Theyve even got the Treeline Terrain Park open and Lake Reveal for pond skimmers to wade across.
Its also possible to get a powder day in Colorado during summer skiing. Six inches of fresh snow fell at A-basin this week already. Colorados higher elevated resorts, some perched right on the Continental Divide, keep the snow around a lot longer than in other states. Also, the air is drier which keeps the snow in good condition.
Skiing on the 4th of July might be a bucket list worthy activity. Just dont forget the sunscreen and sparklers.
