By the end of November, the number of CSCUSA ski resorts open in Colorado will double. Going into the Thanksgiving holiday there are 6 resorts running lifts. By the end of the holiday weekend there will be 11, and by the end of the month well have 12 resorts open for the 2011/12 season.
Steamboats Director of Skiing, Olympic medalist and World Champion, Billy Kidd samples the snow on the intermediate trail, Heavenly Daze today, Tuesday, November 22nd, in advance of the Steamboat Ski Area opening for its 49th winter season.
A series of storms have blanketed the mountain with nearly 3 feet of powder this month including more than a foot of snow this past weekend at Thunderhead, the resorts mid-mountain location at 9,080 feet. Steamboat is currently reporting a 21-inch base at mid-mountain. Since October 7th, the resort has received 43 inches of snow.
Crested Butte is famous for its parties, costumes and light-hearted nature and opening day 2011 was no different. On Wednesday, Nov. 23, Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) celebrated opening day and its 50th birthday in style with free skiing for every guest.
In addition to skiing and riding, guests can enjoy the new Zip Line tour, which debuted in June 2011 and will be open for the entire winter season. The tour includes five zip lines and three suspension bridges and is approximately two hours in length. The Adventure Park, which includes miniature golf, bungee trampoline and the rock climbing wall, also will be open on Wednesday and throughout the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
