Latest Snowstorm Allows for Opening
Monarch Mountain will open for the 2017-2018 winter season Thursday, November 23, 2017. A favorable storm system dumped over 12” of snow on the Mountain Thursday and Friday, giving Monarch a mid-mountain base of 23”, and a year to date total of 44”. Monarch will announce terrain and lifts service on Tuesday, November 21.
Randy Stroud, General Manager of Monarch Mountain, says “We couldn’t be happier to get the mountain open. It’s an incredible team of folks that shape the whole experience up there. We are a family, and we feel that way about our locals and passholders…all of our guests really. So it feels perfectly natural to gather together for Thanksgiving. The center piece on our table is a big beautiful white mountain.”
“We spend the majority of our time each off season focusing on enhancing the guest experience and I think we certainly made strides in that regard with the improvements we’ve made around the lodge, the website, the mountain-wide software, upgraded rental fleet and demos, and we were fortunate to be able to expand our cat skiing terrain by 650 acres.”
“You’ve probably seen it already … Ski Independent … that’s our moniker and we’re proud of that. With all the mergers and acquisitions by Vail, Aspen KSL, Powder Corp, so forth, we feel fortunate to be able to be who we want to be and can stay committed to that. It’s something we personally identify with and think many others who work so hard to make ends meet will too. Let’s just be who we are and not over complicate it.”
