MountainFilm Fest is an event in Telluride that you should definitely plan on attending. If you’re a fan of eclectic and inspiration films, this is right up your alley. MountainFilm Fest selected just about 100 films from around the world and will be showcasing them over the Memorial Day holiday. Starting around 8 AM each day through Monday, short films will be shown at different locations. In between sets, coffee breaks, discussions, book signings, happy hours and much more will be happening.
Mountainfilm uses the power of film, art, and ideas to inspire audiences to create a better world. Held every Memorial Day weekend, Mountainfilm is a documentary film festival that showcases nonfiction stories about environmental, cultural, climbing, political and social justice issues that matter. Along with exceptional documentaries, the festival goes beyond the film medium by bringing together world-class athletes, change makers and visionary artists for a multi-dimensional celebration of indomitable spirit. Mountainfilm, which includes interactive talks, free community events, a gallery walk, outdoor programming, and presentations, aims to inspire audiences to action on worthy causes.
The 2019 theater presenters include best-selling author and Mountainfilm guest director Cheryl Strayed, alpinist Sir Chris Bonington, Obama administration speechwriter Ben Rhodes, transgender mountaineer Erin Parisi and naturalist Doug Peacock. Other highlights include a panel on pathways toward inclusion and access in outdoor recreation and a presentation from world-renowned ski mountaineer and Telluride resident Hilaree Nelson and her partner, Jim Morrison.
Make sure to plan a time to go view some of the selected films this weekend. There will be free showings on certain films under the stars, gallery walks and an ice cream social.
