Now that winter has arrived with a vengeance, Steamboat Powdercats, Colorados premier snowcat guiding service, has extended its season till the end of April and reduced rates to help entice guests to come for a much needed powder day.
Due to the delay in opening this season and with all the new snow we just received, we will be staying open thru the end of April, said Eric Deering, General Manager for Steamboat Powdercats. We are also reducing rates for this late season to help inspire guests to come up for a fantastic day of Spring skiing in the backcountry of Buffalo Pass.
Initially forecasting a closing day of April 8th, Steamboat Powdercats will now be open till April 30th.
Rates, currently at $450/seat or $4500 for a private cat, will be reduced from March 19th till April 30th to $350/seat or $3500 for a private cat. And for those guests who already visited Steamboat Powdercats this season or were bumped due to the 6-week, early season delay, those guests will receive an additional $50 off individual seats ($300/guest).
After a 6-week delay to its season due to poor snow conditions in December and January, Steamboat Powdercats opened its doors on January 21st. This was the first time that Steamboat Powdercats had to delay its opening since it started guiding powder skiing tours in 1983. Since we opened, weve been in a winter weather pattern that peaked on Presidents Day with a major winter storm that dumped 4 feet of snow in our terrain. Deering said.
Buffalo Pass is notorious for a deep snowpack and is annually one of Colorados and the Rocky Mountains deepest snowpacks. In fact, in early May of 2011, after a record breaking winter and heavy April snow showers, the Tower Site, a Natural Resources Conservation Service snow monitoring location in the heart of Buffalo Pass, recorded the deepest snowpack ever recorded in Colorados history.
If this April is anything like last year, are confident that extending our season will provide guests with an additional powder day that they may have lost out on with the slow start to the ski season, says Kent Vertrees, Office Manager with Steamboat Powdercats. We are confident that we can put guests into fresh powder conditions no matter the month and March and April, at least in the last few years, have been a great snow producing time for us. Lets see how this Spring turns out and hope to see many new and old guests for another great day in the backcountry.
