In Ski Country, Snowdays Mean Openings

In Ski Country, Snowdays Mean Openings Ahhh, the nostalgia of a snowday. Kids all over Colorado are doing cartwheels in celebration of the snowday, but here at Colorado Ski Country USA, resorts are doing back flips.

Snow accumulations are mounting at CSCUSA resorts as the first significant snowstorm of the ski season is leaving its mark on Colorado. Every CSCUSA resort is receiving snow from this storm. When this kind of weather happens this early in the season, it allows resorts to make some key decisions, like whether to open early or not, whether to open more terrain or lifts, or whether to host the Ski Country crew for a private ski day (which hasn’t happened yet, but we’re always optimistic.)

For example, because of this snowfall, Wolf Creek will open on Saturday with three lifts instead of just one, as originally planned. (Before the storm they had a 30 inch season to date snowfall total anxious to see what the opening day base report is.)

Arapahoe Basin and Loveland, who both opened the first week of October, can now open more terrain thanks to all the new snow. And at Aspen, the weather has allowed them to start snowmaking operations earlier than planned, which is great news because they have a triple whammy with opening day, Thanksgiving Weekend, and Aspen Winternational Women’s World Cup, which is also an Olympic qualifier event.

There are a couple ways to keep up to speed on resort snow totals, one, sign up for eSnow and get the morning reading from all 22 resorts in one nice email delivered to your inbox. The second way is to go to our site and check the report online. This has its advantages because it is updated twice a day, morning and afternoon, so you can see the latest snow totals the night before your ski day.

Below is a quick list of Colorado Ski Country resort scheduled opening dates. Keep these handy, but check in with us to see if there are any announcements. As those of us who live in Colorado know, the weather can change in an instant, and therefore, so can open dates.
