Heightened Fire Danger Prompts Copper to Revise 3 Ring Weekend Festivities, Still Dozens of Family-Friendly Activities to Enjoy

Due to heightened fire danger throughout the state, the Copper Mountain Resort Association has worked closely with the Copper Mountain Fire Department and Summit County Sherriff to determine the safest course of action for 3 Ring Weekend, Copper’s annual Fourth of July celebration. The three parties involved have determined that this year’s fireworks display will be cancelled and that alternative entertainment be provided.

Mark Thomas, Copper Mountain’s Fire Department Fire Chief, explained the decision, “Like the Copper Mountain Resort Association, the Copper Mountain Fire Department is committed to the community and providing a great experience for our homeowners, merchants and guests. We are both disappointed that our 3 Ring Weekend will not have fireworks this year. The safety of our community and the Stage 2 Fire Restrictions, that will take effect on Friday, June 22, 2012 in Summit County, have led to this decision. Please come out and enjoy all of the other free activities and entertainment on June 30th and be safe.” Alongside fellow fire fighters, Thomas will lead the kid-powered Primp My Ride parade on Saturday morning, and afterwards they will share fire safety tips and allow kids to sit in the fire engine.

While fireworks displays are a tradition for many families on Independence Day, there is no shortage of new memories to be made this year at Copper. On Saturday, the Conscious Carnival and Big Wheel Rally will return in full-force, accompanied by two noteworthy additions to the festivities. A unique Flobots performance, Everybody’s Got Talent, will thrive on audience participation, followed by a first-ever Glow Show featuring fire-alternative entertainment like LED poi spinning and hula hoops, glow sticks, plus glow-in-the-dark face and body paint. The weekend also correlates with the Copper Half Marathon and Trail 10K/5K races, providing the opportunity test your Independence Day endurance.
