From Denver, a day trip to SolVista is SoEasy. And when you hit it on a powder day like we did, it is SnowNice. Just a short drive down the valley from its neighbors Winter Park and Mary Jane, SolVista is a happy little place for kids and families, kind of like a winterized Romper Room.
The official name is SolVista Basin at Granby Ranch. The resort has three lifts, a full service base lodge with all the amenities to serve guests’ needs, a tubing hill, a sledding hill, and a big giant snow pile for kids to play on.
It’s the kind of place where parents can feel comfortable letting kids ride the lift solo for the first time, or let them take laps on their own while mom and dad keep count by the fire pit (cocktail in hand of course).
SolVista has a complete ski school staffed with an army of instructors. Like the yellow brick road on the way to Oz, instructors lead kids in lesson groups down trails that promise adventure at every turn.
The thing I like about SolVista is the subtle niceties around the place like free close in parking, accessible wi-fi, passed brownies at aprs, and a big giant zebra/tiger creature to charm the kids.
