It seeming as though Colorado will experience its first snow of the season in the coming days! A robust trough (or area of lower pressure) will move across the state tapping into moist, tropical air allowing for moisture to be present. But this trough will also usher in colder air which will switch the precipitation from rain to snow. Especially at higher elevations!
For now, Wednesady into Thursday looks to be the timing of this event for the elevations above 10,000′ which are the most likley areas to receive accumulating snow. Not much, but a few inches could fall in certain areas. This is mainly for the North-central mountains of Colorado.
There will also be quite a bit of cold air with this as well. High elevations will dip below freezing for several hours. Expect to be able to see the fresh snow up on the highest peaks by Thursday evening or by Friday.
This is just a sign of winter coming! Colorado is almost open!
