Colorado Ski Country is the beneficiary of a fall snowstorm that swept through the state overnight, leaving resorts with a season mixture of fall colors and wintery conditions.
Teasing eager skiers and snowboarders, the fresh snow is a reminder that Colorados Opening Day of ski season is not far away. Thanks to the recent storm, in excess of 10 inches are atop Winter Park Resort, 9 inches have collected at Powderhorn, approximately 6 inches have fallen at Arapahoe Basin, Aspen/Snowmass and Loveland each have up to 5 inches from the storm, and Copper is reporting 3 inches in their base area.
Four resorts are making snow as conditions permit. Loveland Ski Area was the first resort to start making snow, beginning last week, and was quickly followed the same day by perennial Opening Day challenger Arapahoe Basin. Earlier this week, Copper Mountain launched snowmaking operations and Telluride followed suit.
As snowmaking continues, and as natural snow falls, resorts anticipate opening in a matter of weeks. A full list of scheduled open dates can be found at http://www.coloradoski.com/resort-season-dates.
