On Saturday, January 31, 2015, some of the most incredible ski mountaineering racers will descend on Powderhorn Mountain Resort for a grueling race in and around the resorts slopes and side-country giving it a backcountry feel.
Skiers will use climbing skins to make their way up the race route, remove their skins at the top and ski down to the next transition station. Then they will ascend again to the top of the resort to the final transition station and race their way down to the finish line.
This is a great series of events with incredible athletes. Last year we saw wonderful race and we are expecting the same this year, states Dave Smith, Powderhorns Marketing Manager. The event is going to start at 8:30 am and awards at 11:30 am, which is going to make for a very fast and fun event to see. In the Race category, we will have some of the top mountaineering racers in the world competing.
The four racing categories are: Male & Female Race and Male & Female Rec. The Racers event is 9 miles long and covers 4,000 of vertical gain. The Rec racers will cover 7 miles with 3,000 feet of vertical gain. All racers are encouraged to pre-register and the cost is $45. Day of registration will occur from 7:30-8:20 am in the Cottonwood Room at the Main Lodge. For more information about the event and pre-registration, please visit Powderhorn.com/special-events.
