Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend at a Colorado Ski Area

In Colorado Ski Country, Memorial Day Weekend is an exciting time of year. Several ski areas are opening their slopes for summer operations, while the holdouts (like A-Basin) are still offering skiing and riding. Whether you’re looking for slushy spring turns, an early start to the mountain biking season, live music, a film festival, or a family-friendly summer getaway, Colorado’s ski areas have something for you this holiday weekend.

Memorial Day Weekend events in the mountains include:

Arapahoe Basin

17th Annual Festival of the Brewpubs (Sunday, May 27)

A-Basin will celebrate Memorial Day Weekend with the largest party of the year. From 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., guests can sample beer from more than a dozen breweries from Summit County, Colorado, and beyond. This event will feature live music on the stage in the Mountain Goat Plaza and outdoor festival food stations. A-Basin will also be open Memorial Day Weekend for skiing and riding.

Aspen Snowmass

Opening Day for Summer Operations (May 26-28)

Aspen Snowmass will launch summer operations Memorial Day Weekend May 26-28. The Silver Queen Gondola at Aspen Mountain will run from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m with the last ride down at 4:30 p.m.

Opening Weekend at Aspen Mountain will include hiking, mountain biking, family-friendly activities, lawn games and dining at the Sundeck.

Granby Ranch

Summer Opening Day (Friday, May 25)

Granby Ranch will open the bike park for summer operations on Memorial Day Weekend. Granby Ranch’s expertly planned mountain biking course will be 100% open, including the downhill bike park and a network of multi-use trails. From rocky, single track bike paths to dirt roads, the mountain at Granby Ranch offers something for everyone. The downhill course is suited for experienced mountain bikers while the cross-country trails are best for beginners.

Purgatory

Quarter Horse to Purgatory (Saturday, May 26)

On Saturday, May 26, Purgatory Resort will kick off their summer operations with the Quarter Horse to Purgatory bike race. Cyclists will ride from downtown Durango to Purgatory, a 25-mile ride with a vertical of 2,300 feet, as part of the infamous Iron Horse Bicycle Classic. Music will be playing at the finish line in the Purgatory Plaza. Summer activities will kick off including the alpine slide, zipline, bungee trampoline, scenic chairlift rides, mountain biking and more.

Steamboat

Opening Weekend (May 26-28)

Steamboat Resort will open for summer operations on Memorial Day Weekend. From May 26-28, visitors can enjoy a wide variety of summer activities including scenic gondola rides and family-friendly summer activities. In The Land Up, guests can hike among wildflowers, race on mountain bike trails, scream down a mountain coaster, jump on a bungee trampoline or scale a climbing wall.

Telluride

Telluride Mountainfilm Festival (May 25-28)

Held every Memorial Day weekend, Telluride Mountainfilm is a documentary film festival that showcases nonfiction stories about environmental, cultural, climbing, political and social justice issues that matter. Mountainfilm selects approximately 85 films each year from around the world, and they are curated alongside guest presentations, a symposium, parties, scheduled conversations, book signings and musical events.
