Aspen Snowmass Announces 2020-21 Winter Season Lift Ticket Art: FriendsWithYou

Aspen Snowmass announces FriendsWithYou, a collaborative series by artists Samuel Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III, as the 2020-21 Winter Lift Ticket Art.  This will mark the 16th consecutive year that Aspen Snowmass has partnered with acclaimed artists to design the lift ticket.

“While talking to our guests and community this fall, one thing has become exceedingly evident, skiing and riding feels more vital than ever, and so does lifting one another up and sparking joy in the little things,” says Mike Kaplan, president and CEO, Aspen Snowmass. “Aspen Snowmass has always been driven to delight and inspire everyone that visits this incredible place, and our collaboration with FriendsWithYou does just that.”

The FriendsWithYou lift ticket art emphasizes unity, optimism, joy and kindness. The colorful imagery featuring clouds, rainbows and vivid colors will brighten the ski slopes this season.

FriendsWithYou uses a variety of mediums including sculpture, animations and live performances to promote of love, harmony & peace. Notably, FriendsWithYou created the successful animated Netflix show, “True and the Rainbow Kingdom”, participated in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2018 featuring their iconic Little Cloud character, and have exhibited their artwork in museums and public venues worldwide.

“We are excited to bring this joyous and uplifting art from FriendsWithYou to the slopes of Aspen Snowmass,” says Paula Crown. “We could all use a little more brightness and optimism in our lives these days. Their designs will spark cheerful conversations and moments of wonder for our guests this season.

FriendsWithYou designs and concepts will also be featured on limited collection Aspen Snowmass merchandise including skis, hats, sweatshirts, jackets, shirts and kid’s items. Guests can find these items in Four Mountain Sports retail shops in downtown Aspen and at the base of each of the four Aspen Snowmass mountains. In addition, Aspen Snowmass will be featuring FriendsWithYou art instillations across our resorts giving our community moments of joy and celebration this season.

In previous years, Aspen Snowmass has featured commissioned works by internationally recognized artists such as Susan Te Kahurangi King, Hank Willis Thomas, Paula Crown, Yutaka Sone, Peter Doig, Karen Kilimnik, Jim Hodges, Carla Klein, Mamma Andersson, Mark Grotjahn, David Shrigley, Mark Bradford, Anne Collier, Takashi Murakami, and Laura Owens. The lift ticket art program started as a partnership between the Aspen Art Museum and Aspen Snowmass in 2005.

Founded in Miami in 2002 by Samuel Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III, artist duo FriendsWithYou centers their practice on ideas of inclusivity, shared experiences, and unity with the universe. Now based in Los Angeles, they aim to spread “magic, love, and friendship” through a spectrum of work including resin sculptures of anthropomorphized objects, animated short videos, and brightly colored large-scale installations.
