Americans for the Arts, the nations leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts and arts education, announced companies selected by the Business Committee for the Arts (BCA), a division of Americans for the Arts, as The BCA 10: Best Businesses Partnering with the Arts in America for 2013. The BCA 10 Awards and BCA Leadership Award will be presented by Americans for the Arts on October 2, 2013, at a black-tie gala at the Central Park Boathouse in New York City.

A core value of the Aspen Skiing Company business model is providing opportunities that define the uniquely Aspen experience mind, body, and spirit. We support an initiative that brings our guests art in unexpected places, and partner within the arts to foster connections between the cultures of skiing and art to engage, inspire, and to challenge expectations, states Mike Kaplan, CEO Aspen Skiing Company.

Aspen Skiing Company received the Impact Award highlighting innovative use of the arts to propel business strategies and success, programs that engage employees with creativity and other community activities that support arts and business partnerships.

The Honorable Governor of Colorado, John Hickenlooper stated, Partnerships between arts and business help define Colorado. These types of collaborative efforts attract new businesses to our state and go hand in hand with the innovative spirit that makes Colorado a great place to live, work and play.

Aspen Skiing Company (ASC) operates four ski mountains and two hotels, one residence club, 13 restaurants and 18 retail stores in the Aspen/Snowmass area. Since its founding in 1946, programs were created to engage employees in community arts and business partnerships and have become an integral part of ASC company culture. The 2005 collaboration between Aspen Art Museum and ASC began with the goal of bringing contemporary art to audiences in innovative ways and in unexpected places. Examples include using world-class art as the imagery on each seasons lift ticket and offering public access to sculpture, visual and performance art. In 2010, ASC presented the multisite exhibition of renowned artist Walter Niedermayr, featuring large-scale photographs at locations throughout Aspen/Snowmass that could be visited on foot, snowshoes, skis or snowboard.
