Telluride Ski Resort opens for the 2013-14 skiing and snowboarding season today, and locals are buzzing with excitement after 61 of snow has fallen resulting in a 34 base. Locals arent the only ones looking forward to a great winter, visitors and mountain enthusiasts are keeping a keen eye on the weather reports as Telluride experiences some of the best preseason snow conditions its seen in years.
Thanks to Mother Nature and the hard work of the Mountain Operations team, Telluride Ski Resort will have runs ready for its dedicated skiers and riders. Lifts and terrain for Opening Day will consist of Village Express (Lift 4) with skiing on Village Bypass to Lower Boomerang, upper Misty Maiden to Village Bypass and Lower Misty Maiden below Gorrono Ranch. The Gondola will be open for foot traffic to Village Bypass and access to the town of Mountain Village. The Chondola (Lift 1) will be operating with Meadows and the Learning Center Magic Carpet and terrain. The Magic Carpet at the base of Village Express will also be open in addition to an early season terrain park with limited features in the lower section of Hoot Brown this year, just above the base of Village Express.
We are optimistic about opening additional terrain in early December thanks to recent storms and our investment in the new snowmaking systems, said Jeff Proteau, Vice President of Mountain Operations and Planning. While we are having a snowier early season than past years, we are still working hard making and grooming snow to create a solid base, ensuring sustainable terrain for the season.
Snow is being made on Boomerang to the bottom of Polar Queen Express (Lift 5) and See Forever in order for the Lift 5, Apex Lift (Lift 6) and the loop to See Forever to open as soon as possible.
Lots of excitement revolves around the first day of the season with everyone vying to get on the hill. Pick up your pass early to head straight to the chairlift and avoid waiting in line at the pass office on Thanksgiving Day. Telluride Ski Resorts Mountain Village pass office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week, and the Coonskin pass office at the base of Coonskin Lift (Lift 7) is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
