Concerned about climate change? Interested in sustainable efforts? You'll be happy to hear this then. Arapahoe Basin is celebrating its fourth annual "Save Our Snow Celebration" today. The event will showcase Arapahoe Basins and other like-minded companies sustainability initiatives. The Save Our Snow event benefits High Country Conservation Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to minimizing waste and conserving resources in Summit County and surrounding areas.
A green village will be featured in the base area giving guests the opportunity to speak with representatives from Arapahoe Basin, the High Country Conservation Center, Clif Bar, Bike Denver and Siemens Wind Energy.
A-Basin will hold a raffle to benefit the High Country Conservation Center with an A-Basin season pass, lift tickets, skis, restaurant gift certificates and lots of other great swag at 1:45 p.m.
Other activities taking place during the event include guest composting in the Legends Caf and at Black Mountain Lodge from 11:00 a.m. through 2:00 p.m. Free music in the base area will be provided by a DJ from Hampton Entertainment from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and by High 5 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
A-Basins Environmental Manager, Sha Miklas, says, The Save Our Snow Celebration is an event to educate our guests, to raise money in support of local conservation efforts and to have fun! We are very excited about our sustainability program and we want to share it with people. Hopefully folks will see how easy it is to consider the environment when making decisions for their business or in their everyday lives!
In late 2008, Arapahoe Basin teamed up with the High Country Conservation Center to form the Snow Huggers Club and the Save Our Snow event and has since donated over $12,000 to the center. The purpose is to raise money to fund environmentally focused projects, which include education in schools, energy audits, educational material and composting workshops.
Arapahoe Basin will offer $64 lift tickets for the day of the event and will donate $20 of each ticket to the Conservation Center.
