Weekend Snowfall Layers Colorado Resorts
Denver, Colo. – November 12, 2012 – Heavy snowfall arrived across the state over the weekend, serving as a timely reminder for skiers and snowboarders that Colorado Ski Country USA resorts will soon all be open. The recent storm swept through the state blanketing many resorts with natural snow, including a Western Slope piling of 18 inches at both Powderhorn and Sunlight. The storm aided the already open resorts of Copper Mountain, Arapahoe Basin and Loveland by adding fresh natural powder to their man-made efforts, and left a full foot of snow at Winter Park Resort, which will open this coming Wednesday. It also created optimal conditions for snow making at resorts.
More resorts will open in the coming weeks, including Eldora Mountain Resort on Friday. During the Thanksgiving holiday, eight more resorts are scheduled to open: Crested Butte, Monarch, Steamboat (Nov. 21); Aspen Mountain, Ski Cooper, Snowmass Telluride (Nov. 22); and Purgatory (Nov. 23). Silverton, which is scheduled to open December 1, is considering the option of opening early after receiving between two and three feet from the weekend storm.
