Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

General Questions:

How do we sign up?

We will be launching the online application process for both the 2010-11 5th & 6th grade Passport Programs in mid-September, however if you'd like to be sure you don't miss the boat, Click here to sign up for a notification when we do launch the application process.

We also mail 5th Grade applications to over 1,200 schools in September so be sure your teachers keep an eye out! Passport quantities are limited and on a first come first served basis.

What do I need to turn in with my 5th grade application?

If you receive an application from your child's school, look for the 'Application Code', this special code will act as your child's proof of grade. All other 5th grade applications require proof of fifth grade status; such as a report card, birth certificate, or school ID card. Additionally, all applications need a photo uploaded to our system. If you are not able to upload a digital photo, you can mail in a wallet size photo of your child with the application.

Where do I get the great coupons associated with the 5th & 6th Grade Passport Programs?

Coupons for all the awesome deals from our member resorts and our great partners will be available via the Passport eNewsletters we send twice a month and on our website starting in October.

Why are quantities limited?

We do everything we can to assure that every child will receive a pass. However, despite all the planning we can never forecast exactly how many passports we'll need to order from our suppliers, and once we're out, we're out. If you're on the ball and get your application completed early, you will have a much better chance of getting a pass for your child.

Who do I contact if I have a question?

First Class Questions:

When can my 5th grader take a free lesson?

5th graders brand new to skiing or snowboarding will be provided with a voucher good for a free full-day lesson and equipment rental during January 2011. Some resorts may extend the lesson opportunity beyond January and some resorts will have blackout dates. This information will be available on our Passport website, ColoradoSki.com/Passport.

Where can my child take a free lesson?

All Colorado Ski Country member ski areas that offer Beginner or Level One lessons will be offering the First Class lesson in January.

In addition to a 5th grade passport, what else is needed for my child's first day of skiing?

Equipment rental is free and included for participants in the First Class program. Rentals include boots, skis and poles for skiers, or boots and snowboard for snowboarders. Rentals do not include clothing and accessories (goggles, hats, gloves, etc). Helmets are recommended and, at some resorts, mandatory for children in ski school. Most resorts rent helmets and other items for a small daily fee.

If my child has skied or snowboarded before and doesn't need a Level One lesson, can we still request to participate in the program?

No. The free lessons are Level One lessons only and for children that have never skied or snowboarded. The lessons will be primarily on the magic carpet and bunny hills. If your child has some experience with either of those, the First Class program is not for them.

If my child is not eligible for the First Class program, what other options are there?

21 of the Colorado Ski Country USA member resorts offer lessons at a variety of levels and are committed to teaching anyone who wants to improve. Please check ColoradoSki.com for resort deals and coupons.
